#1: NAKED RESOLUTIONS
Copyright 2009 by Milesh J
I can not believe that January just flew by so quickly and sadly all the excitement that I see in people during the beginning of the New Year has faded away as well. I often wonder why do people give up so easily? They were so eager to make those positive changes in their life, what happened?
Gym is the perfect example! During the first week of January, you see faces you have never seen before. Second week, you still see them. Third week, half of the new faces are noticeable and in the fourth week only a few handful become regulars. Isn't that the case every year?
The problem is that we get so carried away with the New Year Resolution rituals that we come up with a list of things to do without having a game plan and excitedly we jump start all the things at the same time and guess what happens in few weeks? We give up!! Just take a look at the resolutions you had made in the past years and notice what happened to them! I know you are trying your best but the issue is that you are following the same old strategy year after year and some how you have convinced yourself that this year will be different! I remember fooling myself for years only to be disappointed and frustrated! You know what will happen if you tried to eat more than you can chew!
Exactly that's the number # 1 issue we have to look at before even we move forward.
I still remember the day I woke up and I knew then and there what I had to do. I opened my journal and noted down all that I had dreamed of. I had revisited the times when I had happiness in my life and I wanted those moments to happen more often again. I started writing down all the things that I wanted to do in my lifetime and things that I have been tolerating. I was "finally" able to see everything clearly! The fog was out of the way for a change! Whether it was a revelation or just a good walk down memory lane, but it helped me change my life forever.
Writing down a plan was a great start but the only way I knew I can make it happen is by sharing it with someone I trust, someone who will be honest and upfront and above all someone who will motivate and push me on the days when I am about to give up. That's what I did, I asked my mentor for help. Now my resolutions were out in the open and I knew there was no going back! For me it was my mentor who made me take the next step, for you it can be a friend, mentor or a lifestyle coach who can help you take that first step! I stuck to my plan and ended up a relationship of five years that was not working. I closed some of the projects that I was not passionate about. And finally, I had enough room on my plate to pursue my dreams!
The # 1 on my list was to take a trip to Paris and that's exactly what I did.
I hope that by sharing my personal journey I can bring some joy into your life. Here is an assignment for you, hope you did not think that you had an easy way out :)
